What this calculator does

A GPA calculator converts course grades and credits into a weighted grade point average. It is useful for checking a term estimate or planning what grades are needed.

Formula used

Each course grade point is multiplied by its credits. The total grade points are divided by total credits counted.

How to read the result

Schools can use different scales, weighting, repeats and pass or fail rules. Use the result as a planning estimate and check it against your institution's policy.

Assumptions

  • Uses a common 4.0 scale.
  • Counts courses with credits above zero.
  • Does not include honours weighting, repeated-course rules or institutional adjustments.

Sources and checks

This calculator uses a standard public formula. Where rules or thresholds can change, source links are listed on the relevant page.

Frequently asked questions

Why are credits needed?

Credits weight each course. A four-credit course affects GPA more than a one-credit course.
