What this calculator does

Net worth is a simple personal balance sheet: what you own minus what you owe. It is useful for tracking financial progress beyond monthly income alone.

Formula used

Total assets are added together, total debts are added together, and debts are subtracted from assets. Liquid assets are cash plus investments.

How to read the result

A positive net worth does not always mean cash is available. Property and pensions can be valuable but not easily spendable, so liquid assets should be considered separately.

Assumptions

  • Uses current estimated values.
  • Does not include tax, selling fees or early withdrawal penalties.
  • Property and vehicle values can change materially.

Sources and checks

This calculator uses a standard public formula. Where rules or thresholds can change, source links are listed on the relevant page.

Frequently asked questions

Should pensions count in net worth?

They can be included as long-term assets, but they are not the same as cash because access rules, tax and timing can apply.
