Quick brief
What to know before you calculate
A short read on the assumptions, trade-offs and definitions that shape the answer.
- Calendar day counts include weekends unless the calculation says otherwise.
- Business day counts usually exclude weekends and may need holiday rules.
- Deadlines can depend on whether the start day or end day is included.
Calendar days are the broadest count
A date difference calculator counts the gap between two dates in ordinary calendar time. That is useful for ages, countdowns, trips and broad planning. It may not match a work deadline if weekends or public holidays do not count.
Business days depend on the calendar
A business day calculator normally excludes Saturdays and Sundays, but public holidays vary by country and sometimes by region. If a deadline is legal, contractual or expensive to miss, check the rules that apply to that specific deadline.
Inclusive and exclusive counting
Some questions count both the start and end date, while others count only the days between them. A task due in 10 days, a hotel stay of 10 nights and a payment term of 10 working days can all be counted differently.
Choose the calculator by the decision
Use date difference for elapsed time, age and countdowns. Use business days for work planning, service levels and lead times. Use hours when the time of day matters. The more formal the deadline, the more carefully the counting rule should be checked.
